The consequences of obesity. A short list.

Obesity is a chronic disease caused by interrelated factors such as lifestyle, genetics and body metabolism. A person who has a weight that is 20 percent greater than the appropriate range for the relevant height is obese.

Obesity has negative consequences on the health of an individual, such that it is better to keep weight off while you can, than to struggle with weight loss.

Some of the negative consequences of obesity on the health include:

High blood pressure: The presence of additional fat tissue in the body requires more oxygen and nutrients, this in turn requires blood vessels to circulate more blood to the fat tissues. Over time, the workload of the heart is increased because more blood has to be pumped through additional blood vessels. More circulating blood means that there is more pressure on the artery walls and this increases blood pressure.

 

Hypertension: Obesity promotes the development of high blood pressure and cases of resistant hypertension are linked to morbid obesity. Medical weight loss is recommended to keep weight off in order to cause a significant revolution in blood pressure. Obesity makes hypertension difficult to manage so a feasible weight loss diet has to be put in place to yield long term, positive results.

 

Diabetes: A major cause of type 2 diabetes is obesity. Obesity can cause a resistance to insulin, the hormone that regulates blood sugar. When this happens, the blood sugar becomes elevated. Medical weight loss is recommended in situations such as this to decrease the risk of diabetes.

 

Heart disease: Obese people are ten times more susceptible to atherosclerosis, i.e the hardening of the arteries. Coronary artery disease can also be induced by obesity as fatty deposits accumulate in arteries that supply blood to the heart. This narrows the arteries and reduces blood flow to the heart. Frequent chest pain, heart attacks and eventually stroke can occur as a result of this is there if an individual does not keep weight off.

Cancer: Obese women are more susceptible to different types of cancer such as breast cancer, colon cancer and uterus cancer while men are likely to suffer from colon and prostate cancer if they do not consider weight loss options.

 

The way out of Obesity is to keep weight off in the best possible way either through regular weight loss, medical weight loss or weight loss diet for the sake of your health.
